Department of orthopedics was founded in 1980s, after decades of unremitting efforts and pursuit, the department has experienced rapid development and improvement and become a comprehensive department including the spine, trauma and joint therapy. In 2004, it became the master degree granting point of Jiangsu University. And in 2005, Institute of Osteopathic Medicine of Jiangsu University was established, consisting of center of spine surgery, center of joint surgery and orthopedic research laboratory. Section one of orthopedics currently has thirteen medical staffs, including two chief doctors, four associate chief doctors, six attending doctors, and one technician with junior professional title. Eight of them obtained master degree, and holders of master degree or above accounted for 69% of the total clinical doctors. The section focuses on the direction of specialization development and has established joint surgery, spine surgery, trauma surgery, hand surgery, bone tumors, bone diseases and other specialized teams.

Section one of orthopedics has 60 beds open for patients, with outpatients amounting to approximately 30000 cases annually and inpatients more than 2000 cases annually, and the section carries out surgical operations more than 1000 cases each year. The section has introduced large specialty medical equipments, such as one set of 3.0T magnetic resonance, two sets of spiral CT, digital X-ray diagnostic unit, two sets of type C-arm X-ray machine, and two sets of minimally invasive arthroscopic equipment and so on.

【Technical Features】

This section has accumulated rich clinical experience in the field of joint surgery, spine surgery, trauma surgery, tumor surgery and hand surgery, and has made gratifying achievements. The section is able to skillfully carry out artificial hip, shoulder, knee joint replacement and revision; pelvic and vertebral tumor resection; knee joint arthroscopic surgery; all trauma fracture, external fixation technology; orthopedic surgery of infantile paralysis sequelae; limb lengthening surgery; brachial plexus nerve injury exploration and repair. It launches new medical technologies, including total hip arthroplasty with small incision, osteoarticular tumor special prosthesis replacement, cervical vertebrae ApoFix, lateral mass screw and pedicles arcus vertebrae screw internal fixation, upper thoracic pedicle screw internal fixation, minimally invasive vertebroplasty, open reduction and internal fixation of radial head fractures, knee artificial cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery, small incision PFN treatment for femoral proximal fractures, as well as percutaneous modified small incision for the treatment of dislocation of shoulder joint and so on. The section has assumed several provincial and municipal scientific projects, has published a number of research papers, and owns one national patent. It has hosted several provincial and municipal academic conferences, has been in charge of provincial and municipal emergency rescue and has won wide recognition from society.

Section Two of Orthopedics

【Profile】

In 2004, it became the master degree granting point of Jiangsu University. And in 2005, Institute of Osteopathic Medicine of Jiangsu University was established, consisting of center of spine surgery, center of joint surgery and orthopedic research laboratory.  Section two of orthopedics currently has 64 beds open for patients, and has thirteen medical staffs, including three of them with senior professional title, one with sub-senior professional title and five attending doctors. what’s more, three of them obtained doctoral degree, seven obtained master degree, and there are two master supervisors in this section, having cultivated twenty one postgraduate students. The section focuses on the direction of specialization development, puts great emphasis on spine surgery, and actively carries out orthopedic minimally invasive surgery. In recent years, it has assumed a number of provincial and municipal scientific research projects. The research achievements have won the Prize of the Introduction of Innovative Medical Technology of Jiangsu Provincial Commission of Health and Family Planning, the Prize of Science and Technology Progress of Zhenjiang, the Prize of Chinese Medical Science and many other awards. It has published more than 60 pieces of theses, with three indexed by SCI.

【Technical Features】

In terms of spine surgery：the section can skillfully perform all kinds of operations about anterior and posterior approach of cervical vertebrae (such as cervical spondylosis, anterior and posterior decompression and internal fixation of cervical spine fracture and dislocation, occipitocervical fusion and so on), conventional and minimally invasive treatment for lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion, reduction and bone grafting and internal fixation of lumbar spondylolisthesis, the surgical treatment for the trauma of spine column and spinal marrow, the nidus clearance and reconstruction of spinal tuberculosis and spinal tumor, the correction of scoliosis and deformity, the operation of thoracic spinal canal stenosis caused by ossification of the ligamentum flavum, as well as vertebral body and posterior convex forming of osteoporotic fracture. These operations all produce positive clinical outcomes.

Joint Surgery: We can skillfully perform artificial hemi-hip and total hip replacement, revision of artificial total hip, total knee replacement, artificial shoulder replacement, arthroplasty, joint fusion, as well as open reduction and internal fixation for fracture of joint. We have successfully performed the surgery of joint function reconstruction for severe shortening deformity of limb and severe bone defect, and the surgery of Knee joint tumor resection combined with artificial total knee replacement.

Orthopedic Trauma Surgery: We have performed all kinds of internal fixation with interlocking intramedullary nail, minimally invasive surgery, and external fixation with stenting technology. We have successfully performed the treatment for severe multiple injuries and combined injury.

Arthroscopic Technique: We are able to skillfully performed arthroscopic diagnosis and treatment of knee, shoulder, ankle and hip. And we are skilled in the forming and repair of meniscus injury, reconstruction of anterior and posterior cruciate ligament of knee joint, and repair of rotator cuff injury.

Microsurgery: We skillfully perform severed limb (finger) replantation, thumb reconstruction with toe transplantation surgery, brachial plexus nerve injury repair and several kinds of skin flap transplantation.

Huang Yonghui, chief doctor, master supervisor, is the member of the Spine Surgery Group of Orthopedics Society of Jiangsu Medical Association, the member of the Spinal Cord Injury Professional Committee of Association of Rehabilitation Medicine of Jiangsu province, the member of the Society of Osteoporosis and Bone Mineral Diseases of Jiangsu Medical Association, the vice director of the Orthopedics Professional Committee of Zhenjiang, and the member of the Academic Leader of Zhenjiang "169 Projects", and the member of the Key Medical Talents of Zhenjiang.

In recent years, he has assumed several provincial and municipal scientific projects and published more than 30 pieces of theses. The scientific research and clinical achievements have been granted one of the Prize of the Introduction of Innovative Medical Technology of Jiangsu Provincial Commission of Health and Family Planning, three of the Prize of Science and Technology Progress of Zhenjiang, and one of the Prize of Chinese Medical Science. At present, he puts emphasis on the basic and clinical research of spine degeneration, and the clinical treatment for osteoporotic fracture of spine. Having been engaged in medicine over 20 years, he is good at the treatment for intractable orthopedic diseases.

He has extensively performed treatments of spinal surgery and accumulated rich clinical experience. He is skilled in the treatment of spine, spinal cord injury, deformity of spinal column, spondylolisthesis, lumbar instability, lumbar stenosis, intervertebral disk hernia, spinal tumors, spinal tuberculosis, cervical spondylosis, and osteoporotic vertebral fractures. He has affluent clinical experience in the rescue of orthopedic major trauma, total hip and knee joint replacement and revision arthroplasty.

Section three of orthopedics currently has 50 beds open for patients, and has eleven medical staffs, including two of them with senior professional title, and one with sub-senior professional title. What’s more, ten of them obtained doctoral degree or master degree, and there is one master supervisor in this section. The outpatients and emergency treatment amounts to approximately 30000 cases annually, and the section carries out surgical operations about 1200 cases each year, and the cases of discharged patients is about 1500 annually. It is now developed into a comprehensive medical team with the integration of medical treatment, education and scientific research, which is characterized by its spine surgery, and it also features in joint surgery, traumatologic surgery and reconstructive surgery.

【Technological Characteristics】

Section three of orthopedics has made outstanding achievements as regard to spine surgery, joint surgery and trauma treatment.

Spine Surgery: In the field of cervical vertebra diseases, we perform anterior and posterior approach operation in the treatment of cervical spondylosis, cervical canal stenosis, ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament, cervical tumor, various kinds of deformities of upper cervical spine, fracture of cervical spine and so on. In the field of thoracic diseases, we perform operations of ossification of ligamentum flavum, tumor and all kinds of trauma fracture. In the field of lumbar diseases, we perform the operation of lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion, lumbar spondylolisthesis, stenosis, tumor and tubercle of lumbar spinal canal, and all kinds of fracture and dislocation. In recent years, we have performed percutaneous vertebroplasty to treat osteoporotic fracture of spine and bone cement enhanced pedicle screw technique, bringing good news to the early rehabilitation of elderly patients. At the same time, we perform minimal invasive surgeries in the treatment of prolapse of intervertebral disc, thoracic and lumbar vertebral compression fractures.

Joint Surgery: We perform the replacement and revision surgery for total knee joint, total hip joint, total shoulder joint, and perform custom-made tumor prosthesis replacement to treat malignant bone tumor around joint. And we have carried out the first case of treatment of giant cell tumor of distal radius bone with allograft osteoarticular transplantation in Zhenjiang (grade Ⅲ)

Osteoarticular trauma: We perform operations to all parts of human body, minimal invasive surgery to treat severe pelvic fracture and all kinds of limbs fracture. Based on the present and looking to the future, we are not afraid of challenging high risks and great difficulties, and we will endeavor to overcome medical problems and to relieve the pain of patients.

【Academic Leader】

Cui Xuwen, dean of Section Three of Orthopedics, academic leader, chief doctor, medical PhD, master supervisor, is the member of Spine Surgery Group of China Association of Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons, the editor of Shanghai District of Orthopedic Journal of China, the member of the Key Medical Talents of Zhenjiang, the member of the Academic Leader of Zhenjiang "169 Projects", the member of "333" Project in Jiangsu province. He has been tutored by nationally celebrated orthopedics experts, including Professor Li jiashun, Professor Jia lianshun, and Professor Hu yougu. After years of study and hard work, he is now skilled in spine surgery, joint surgery and limbs trauma. In 2010, he assumed project supported by Jiangsu Natural Science Foundation and made several scientific achievements. He has published more than 20 pieces of theses on national core periodicals.
