【Profile】

Founded in 1991, Department of Hematology now has a medical force consisting of three chief doctors, three associate chief doctors, and four attending doctors. Nine of the staffs obtained Master’s degree and two obtained doctoral degree. There are two professors, two associate professors, three Master supervisors in the department. Two doctors are the member of Municipal Academic Leaders of “169 Project”, and two doctors are the member of Municipal Key Medical Talents of Zhenjiang. There are 44 beds open for patients, as well as 6 beds in laminar flow ward. The discharged patients amount to 600 cases annually.

【Technical Features】

Under the guidance of latest professional diagnosis and treatment standards, including Diagnostic Criteria for Malignant Hematologic Diseases (version 2008) issued by WHO, Criteria for Hematologic Malignancy issued by National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), and Criteria for Benign and Malignant Hematologic Diseases issued by British Journal of Hematology (BJH), the department carries out standardized diagnosis and treatment. As regard to unusual cases, to provide better medical services, the department has explored new therapies and achieved positive effect. The department has set up transplantation ward (laminar flow ward) with international advanced level. And the department has successfully carried out autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

The department puts much emphasis on scientific and technological innovation, and has accomplished 11 projects supported byJiangsuProvince, provincial health administration and municipal health administration, covering both basic and clinical research. The staffs in the department have published more than 40 pieces of scientific theses on top journals, such as Leukemia Research, Cytotherapy, Chinese Journal of Hematology, Journal of Leukemia & Lymphoma, Jiangsu Medical Journal and other leading periodicals. Many articles, including “implication of the changes of platelet activating factor and platelet activity in the stress process of elderly patients with cardiovascular diseases” have won the Outstanding Paper Award of Zhenjiang. Many projects, including “clinical research on the changes of IL-12 and IFN-r in patients with acute leukemia during chemotherapy” have won three of the Third Prize of Science and Technology Progress of Zhenjiang. The department has set up independent hematology laboratory, taking the lead in performing chromosome examination of hematologic diseases inZhenjiang. The hematology laboratory consists of thrombocyte lab, cytogenetic lab and molecular biology lab. Besides regular examinations, such as cell histochemistry test and blood coagulation test, the laboratory also carries out chromosome examination, leukemia-immunotyping and fusion gene detection, hemolytic anemia test, platelet aggregation test, as well as platelet antibody test.
