    This department is the Key Clinical Specialty of Jiangsu province, the earliest established clinical department of gastroenterology. We have a large group of talents in this department, equipped with complete and advanced facilities. We have integrated clinical treatment, education and scientific research functions together, enjoying rather high reputation inJiangsuprovince. We have the most advanced equipments inZhenjiang, such as Ring Scanning Electronic Ultrasonic Endoscope, Electronic Gastroscope, Electronic Enteroscope, and Plasma Argon Generator, Electric Knife and Endoscope Cleaning Workstation. We have 18 doctors, among which there are five chief doctors, four associate chief doctors, five attending doctors and four resident doctors. And three of them obtained doctoral degree and twelve of them obtained master degree, together accounting for 83.3% of the department staff. We have one doctor selected as the academic and technical leader ofZhenjiang, three doctors as the backbone of science and technology ofZhenjiang. We provide specialist Clinic regularly, assigning experienced chief doctors and associate chief doctors to consult. We have 43 beds open for patients.

    This department has developed regular and standardized diagnosis and treatment of common digestive diseases, such as infection of helicobacter pylori, peptic ulcer, liver cirrhosis, bleeding of the upper digestive tract, ulcerative colitis and gastrointestinal malignancies. We focus on the diagnosis and treatment of rare and intractable cases. And we put more emphasis on the application of digestive endoscopic technology for diagnosis and treatment. Gastroenterology Department performs several characteristic diagnoses and treatments, such as treatments for infection of helicobacter pylori, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), dilation of esophageal stricture, esophageal stenting, endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS), percutaneous transhepatic cholangial drainage (PTCD), percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG), and ligation of esophageal varices (EVL). Several of these projects have made breakthroughs in the field of gastroenterology inZhenjiang. We have undertaken five provincial projects and more than ten municipal projects. Doctors from this department received one of the Third Prize of Science and Technology Progress of Jiangsu Province, three of the Prize of the Introduction of Innovative Medical Technology of Jiangsu Provincial Commission of Health and Family Planning, and five of the Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress of Zhenjiang. Doctors have published over 100 medical theses indexed by SCI or in the series of Chinese Journals and core periodicals.

    Zhang Youli is a PhD, the chief doctor, doctoral supervisor, one of the "333" Project of Jiangsu Province Talents, being rated as one of the young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions of Zhenjiang, one of the academic and technical leaders of Zhenjiang, Vice Chairman of Gastroenterology Branch of Jiangsu Medical Association under Chinese Medical Association, Chairman of the Zhenjiang Gastroenterology Professional Committee, and winner of The National May 1 Labour Medal. The research of the relationship between helicobacter pylori and gastroduodenal diseases which he presides over is taking the leading place inChinaandJiangsuprovince.

Xu Min, the dean of Gastroenterology Department, Medicine PhD, obtained his doctoral degree of gastroenterology (national key discipline) inChanghaiHospitalaffiliated to The Second Military Medical University in 2008. He has been tutored by Li Zhaoshen who is the nationally well-known expert in gastroenterology. Doctor Xu has participated in parts of the research of “Early Diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer Methylation” which is one of the projects supported by National Science and Technology Support Plan. In 2008, He successfully applied for and obtained the support of National Natural Science Foundation of China with the project “Radiation-induced DNA Methylation and Its Immune Reaction on Pancreatic Carcinoma” as the second author. What is more, he has participated in several provincial and municipal projects and has published over ten theses indexed by SCI, or in the series of Chinese Journals and core periodicals. He mainly specializes in the basic and clinical research of pancreatic disease. And he is also expert at the treatment of acute and chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.
