Founded in 1984, the department has now developed into the one with reasonable levels of excellent group members, comprehensive and complete medical equipments and strong ability of clinical scientific research. The department consists of outpatient clinic, ward, endocrine clinical laboratory, Zhenjiang Key Molecular and Endocrine Laboratory, and clinical nutrition and so on. The department has more than 50 beds open for patients and has a medical staff of fifteen, two of them obtained doctoral degree and thirteen of them obtained master degree. There are two master supervisors in the department, recruiting 6-8 graduate students annually; in 2007, the department was approved as “National Drug Clinical Trial Base”; in 2010, the department was approved to be Municipal Key Clinical Specialty of Zhenjiang.

【Technical Features】

At present, the department can comprehensively carry out various routine treatments and key treatments of endocrinology in accordance with the requirement ofJiangsuprovincial key clinical specialty. In the treatment of thyroid diseases, the department performs SPECT thyroid static imaging, fine needle aspiration biopsy of the thyroid nodule under B-ultrasound guidance and other technologies; Working together with department of thyroid surgery, department of nuclear medicine, department of ultrasound and department of pathology, the department carries out standardized treatments for hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer. And the department achieves a high rescue success rate for hyperthyroid heart disease and hyperthyroidism crisis; in recent years, the department takes the lead in applying microwave ablation technology to treat thyroid nodule and parathyroid adenoma inJiangsuprovince. As one of the main participants, in cooperation withRuijinHospitalaffiliated to the Medicine School of Shanghai Jiaotong University, the department carries out the research on predisposing genes of Gravses disease, the research results have been published in Nature genetics and other top international journals.

In the aspect of diabetes prevention and treatment, the department has set up "Zhenjiang Health Education Network of Diabetes” and “Home of diabetes patients”, and it also provides education and training for all levels of medical staff and diabetic patients in local districts. In 2014, the project, "Home of diabetic patients", won the Second Prize of Characteristic Services of the Youth Civilization Project of Jiangsu Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission. The department has sets up the "IntensiveDiabetesTreatmentCenter”, equipped with nearly 40 sets of insulin pump of “MiniMed, Dana” and other well-known foreign brands. For preliminary diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes, in recent years,  the department has carried out the two-week intensive treatment, and blood sugar compliance rate and the remission rate increased significantly, which has achieved good social benefits; The department also has achieved a very high rescue success rate of acute diabetic complications, such as ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar nonketotic coma.

In addition, the department is equipped with “Diagnostic box for diabetic foot” and “Nonmydriatic fundus camera” and performs the screening of major vascular and microvascular complications. In cooperation with Burns and Plastic Surgery Department, Intervention Technology Department, Orthopaedics Department and Traditional Chinese Medicine Surgery, the department has developed standardized diagnosis and treatment for diabetic foot. The department has applied balloon dilatation, stenting and local thrombolysis to patients of diabetes mellitus with arterial occlusion of lower extremities. In 2012, as one of the main cerebral apoplexy screening and prevention bases of National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFP), the leaders of the Commission and the audit experts spoke highly of our screening treatment for cerebral apoplexy. In 2013, we won the Outstanding Paper Award in the evaluation of stroke prevention and treatment papers inChina.

The department performs different kinds of detection of pituitary hormones and target gland hormone, and dynamic functional tests, such as GnRH stimulation test, HCG stimulation test, insulin hypoglycemia stimulation test, large and small dose of desamethasone suppression test and so forth. The department has developed some technologies, such as “venous blood sampling from inferior petrosal sinus and adrenal venous blood sampling” to treat diseases, such as hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal gland. The department has developed detection of chromosome and gene mutation. In recent years, the department has successfully cured several cases of Cushing disease, Kallman syndrome, primary aldosteronism (PA), Bartter syndrome and many other rare and intractable diseases. The department has developed a set of effective and standardized practices of clinical diagnosis and treatment for patients who suffered from diabetes, thyroid diseases, pituitary diseases, adrenal diseases, gonadal disease, adiposity, metabolic bone diseases (including bone rarefaction), polycystic ovary syndrome, gout and other endocrine and metabolic diseases. We also have high rescue success rate of diabetes mellitus ketoacidosis, hyperosmolar coma, hyperthyroidism crisis, hypercalcemic crisis, hypernatremia, pituitary and adrenal crisis and other endocrine critical diseases.

In term of medical education, the department undertakes the supervising and teaching work of undergraduate and graduate students ofJiangsuUniversity. It takes the training tasks for medical staff from the second-level hospital or above for further study and cultivates a large number of key members of endocrinology, and some of them has become the leading staff of their working places. Besides, the department hosts various kinds of further education training as well as technology promotion annually. During recent two years, the medical team and nursing team in the department undertookJiangsuprovincial level further education training program, "The Progress of Common Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases’ Diagnosis and Treatment" and “The New Progress of Common Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases’ Diagnosis, Treatment and its Nursing Pattern”. In recent three years, as the National Drug Clinical Trial Base, the department has undertaken 8 of international multi-center clinical drug research projects and successfully passed the reexamination by national and provincial food and drug administrative authorities, and it also passed the inspection of foreign experts.

In the aspect of scientific research, working together withJapaneseGifuUniversity, the department has set up "Zhenjiang Key Molecular and Endocrine Laboratory". Meanwhile, the department has participated in the research of the national major projects conducted by Ruijin hospital affiliated to the Medical School of Shanghai Jiaotong University and by Shanghai Institute of endocrine and metabolic diseases. At present, the department is undertaking various kinds of projects funded by the Federation of Asian Nutrition Societies, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Jiangsu Natural Science Foundation, Ministry of Education, "Six-kindTalentPeak" project inJiangsu Province,JiangsuProvincial Health and Family Planning Commission, and municipal social development programs ofZhenjiang. Some research results have been published on the Chinese journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Chinese Journal of Diabetes and other internationally famous SCI periodicals such as Diabetes Care (IF 8.57), JCEM(IF 6.31) and so on. The department also has won the Prize of the Introduction of Innovative Technology of Jiangsu Provincial Commission of Health and Family Planning, and the Prize for Science and Technology Progress of Zhenjiang and so on.

Yuan Guoyue, PHD, chief doctor, vice professor, master supervisor, is the members of Endocrinology Professional Committee of Jiangsu Medical Association, the members of Diabetes Professional Committee of Jiangsu Medical Association, the members of Metabolic Diseases Group of Diabetes Professional Committee of Jiangsu Medical Association, vice director of Diabetes Professional Committee of Zhenjiang Medical Association, member of "333" Project in Jiangsu Province（third level）, member of the first group of Excellent Talents of Jiangsu province, member of the Key Medical Talents of Zhenjiang, member of the Academic Leader of Zhenjiang "169 Projects", contributing editor of the International Endocrine Metabolic magazine, Cardiovascular Diabetology, reviewer of Chinese journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, reviewer of Chinese Journal of Clinical Laboratory Science, reviewer of journal of Jiangsu University (medicine edition) and other national mad international journals. He is the appraisal expert of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). And he has been granted the honor of 2015 Zhenjiang Model Worker.

Dr. Yuan graduated fromRuijinHospitaland Shanghai Institute of Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases in 2007. He became a visiting scholar in diabetes and endocrine research center in American Baylor College of Medicine from July 2014 to January 2015. He has presided over several projects supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China, Jiangsu Natural Science Foundation, and Jiangsu Provincial Health Department and other programs. Recent years, he has published  more than 70 pieces of theses both at home and abroad, which includes Diabetes Care（IF 8.57, Corresponding author）, JCEM(IF 6.31points, Corresponding author）、Nature Genetics（IF 29.648，Co-author）and other 27 papers indexed by SCI. He had won the Second Prize of the Introduction of Innovative Technology of Jiangsu province and other awards. He specializes in the treatment of diabetes, thyroid gland diseases, adrenal gland diseases and other types of common and critical endocrine diseases.
